The Queen is coming to town!

Although I'm not usually particularly interested in the affairs of the British Royal Family, this one is quite exciting...the Queen is coming to Oman, on invitation from HM Sultan Qaboos. She'll be coming as part of a celebration to mark the 40th anniversary of the Sultan's reign. She will be accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh (AKA her husband) and it will be their first visit for 30 years. I'm sure they'll be quite surprised at how much the country has changed since then.

  1. When the Queen last visited in 1979 she arrived on thhe Royal Yacht Britannia. The yacht was taken out of service in 1979 and the normally reserved Queen was famously seen to shed a tear at the decommissioning ceremony. The tradition of a Royal Yacht dated back to 1660 and Britannia was the 83rd such vessel. The tradition was ended by the Blair Government on the grounds of cost. The savings have certainly helped in paying the current £6million it costs the British taxpayer to provide security for the despicable Mr. Blair as he travels the world earning an estimated £20million a year. I wonder how she will be arriving this time? Perhaps Sultan Qaboos could arrange to pick her up, public transport can sometimes be very unreliable.

  7. Nice : ) I've never seen her in the flesh. It'll be funny if I see her in Oman when I lived all my life in England without seeing her!
